A new wing to St Mark's Hospital, Northwick Park, was designed by Richard Horden Associates, architects. There is a single external lift which travels direct from Ground to Roof level 9 for the check in. Each single bed ward give the patients far reaching views across Harrow, through inclined glazing, not to dis-similar to that of an aircraft control tower, hence free from the weather elements. The bathrooms were prefabricated pods built by Fraquar in Scotland and were craned into place, all the contractor had to do was make the services connections and the rooms which could be left untouched until handover. The mechanical condenser units were underneath opening flaps, similar to a plane wing.
Yates Associates worked with Loren Butt and undertook full detailed design of MEP services. Sexton Associates were the lighting consultants from Washington DC
The building was funded by the late Sir Robert and Lisa Sainsbury, and the clinic is world famous for intestinal disorders.
