Kitchen refurbishment and extension
Set in 45 acres of parkland to the west of Croydon, the Whitgift School was founded in 1596 by John Whitgift, Elizabeth 1st's last Archbishop of Canterbury. Today it is run by the Whitgift Foundation.
In the grounds, one of the most striking aspects is the sound of peafowl, cranes and flamingos which roam around exotic trees. David Attenborough said it was 'an astonishing school' Yates Associates were invited by architects Mittleman Associates to undertake both the electrical and specialists lighting services for a new extension and refurbishment of the existing kitchen. The complete project had to commence and complete within the school summer recess of 2010.
