Environmental control of the Orchid Houses
The late Lady Lisa Sainsbury donated her collection of orchids to Kew Gardens.
Yates Associates were invited to design an automatic environmental control system for six houses, which opened and closed window vents and mist sprayed the orchids simulating a tropical condition. Advice was taken from the Kew Gardens curator, John Woodhams. The houses are not open to the public as the collection is used for conservation purposes.
